FAQ

How is electricity cost calculated?

Watts × hours a day ÷ 1000 gives kWh a day; kWh × your price per kWh gives the cost. A 1000 W air conditioner for 8 hours uses 8 kWh; at 0.15 a kWh that is 1.20 a day.

Is anything uploaded?

No. The math runs in this tab.

Where do I find the watts?

On the label or plug of the appliance, or in its manual. Devices that cycle on and off, like fridges and air conditioners, draw full power only part of the time, so their real use is usually lower than the label.

Where do I find my price per kWh?

On your electricity bill: total energy charge divided by kWh used. Tiered or time-of-use tariffs have several prices; use the one for the hours the appliance runs.

What does standby use cost?

Enter the standby watts (often 0.5–5 W) with 24 hours a day. 5 W all year is about 44 kWh.
