How to remove the background from a photo for free

Open the background remover on a computer or a recent phone. The first run downloads the model once; later runs start at once. Your photos are never uploaded.
The subject should be in focus and stand out from the background. Hair against a busy background is the hardest case; a plain wall or sky gives the cleanest edge.

Check the edge
Hold the image to see the original and compare the outline. Fine hair and transparent objects such as glass may need a second photo against a plainer background.
Choose the background
Transparent keeps only the subject. White suits product listings and ID-style photos. Color fills any color; Blur keeps the scene softly out of focus behind the subject.
