About this data
The figures count CO2 from burning fossil fuels and from industry such as cement, inside the country's borders. Emissions from land use change and forestry (LULUCF) are left out, and so are emissions from goods a country imports.
Small oil and gas producers top the list because energy-heavy industry is large next to their population. For a country's total share of world emissions, multiply by its population.
